We provide financial support for essential funeral costs when individuals have insufficient means or support, helping ensure a dignified Islamic burial.

What We Do

We provide partial or full financial support for eligible funeral-related expenses, including:

  • Funeral director costs

  • Burial plot costs

  • Transportation (where applicable)

  • Essential Islamic burial requirements

Support is delivered through:

  • Direct payment to funeral service providers (preferred)

  • Reimbursement in exceptional cases, subject to strict evidence requirements

Who We Support

Muslim Funeral Aid supports the burial of Muslims who have died without sufficient family, financial or other support to meet essential funeral costs.
This may include individuals who have no family or friends able to assist, as well as travellers, refugees, asylum seekers, students, elderly people without support, and others who may be without a local support network.Each referral is assessed individually to ensure our charitable funds are used appropriately.

We support the burials of individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, including:

  • Low-income families

  • Individuals receiving benefits and Government assistance has not covered the full cost of burial

  • Refugees and asylum seekers

  • Families facing sudden bereavement without savings

  • Vulnerable individuals without next-of-kin support

Eligibility CriteriaApplicants must demonstrate:● Financial hardship
● Government assistance did not cover cost of funeral
● Residency within the UK (West Midlands prioritised)
● Evidence of funeral costs and arrangements
● Confirmation of need from a recognised referee
(e.g. mosque, imam, community organisation, or professional)

Losing a loved one is one of life’s most difficult moments. Mr Rahman is a finance and strategy professional with experience across banking, professional services and growing businesses. As Treasurer of Muslim Funeral Aid, he provides financial oversight, ensuring transparency, accountability and responsible stewardship of donations.

Ms Abbasi is an experienced educator with over 16 years in primary education, with expertise in leadership, teacher development and safeguarding. As a Trustee of Muslim Funeral Aid, she brings a strong commitment to inclusive education, community engagement and supporting those in need.

The burial of MIB

In partnership with
Cutchi Sunni Muslim Association, Birmingham

Our brother MIB had no known next of kin or immediate family at the time of his passing. After becoming homeless, his case came to light when a concerned friend traced him through the coroner. With no one able to take responsibility for funeral arrangements or costs, support was arranged to ensure he was laid to rest with care and respect.

The burial of BH

In partnership with
Al-Janaza Islamic Funeral Service Ltd

Our brother BH was a revert originally from Guyana with no recourse to public funds. Following a severe stroke, he was left paralysed and later passed away due to complications and frailty. He had no accessible family support and no financial means, including no bank account, to cover his funeral expenses. Muslim Funeral Aid stepped in to ensure he received a dignified Islamic burial.

The burial of ABG

In partnership with

ABG was born in Barbados and came to the UK at the age of five. He embraced Islam in 2007 and went on to marry and raise a family within the Muslim community.
ABG worked as a youth worker, supporting young people, until ill health and disability prevented him from working around fifteen years ago. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago and was cared for by his wife throughout his illness.
Following his passing, MFA provided financial assistance to help his family meet the costs of the funeral.

Who can apply for support?

Support is available for Muslims who do not have sufficient means or support to meet essential funeral costs. This may include individuals without family or local support, as well as families experiencing financial hardship. Each case is assessed individually, including whether other sources of financial support are available.

What if other financial support is available?

Applicants should first explore any available statutory or other financial support towards funeral costs. MFA will consider support where essential costs remain unmet, helping to ensure charitable funds are used where they are most needed.

What costs are covered?

We support essential funeral and burial costs, including necessary funeral director and burial expenses. Each case is assessed according to need and eligibility.

How quickly will I receive a response?

We understand that burial arrangements are time-sensitive and aim to respond to referrals as quickly as possible.

How is support assessed?

Each referral is assessed individually. We may request information from the referrer, funeral director or relevant organisation to verify the circumstances, establish what other support is available, and determine what essential costs remain outstanding.

How is the support paid?

Where support is approved, payments are made directly to the relevant funeral provider rather than to individuals.

Will my information remain confidential?

Yes. Information provided to Muslim Funeral Aid is handled sensitively and confidentially and used only for assessing and administering support, in line with our privacy policy.
